B.F. Sisk Dam SOD Modifications: Phase I

Project Summary: B.F. Sisk Dam is a 382-foot-high zoned compacted earthfill embankment located on the west side of California's Central Valley about 12 miles west of Los Banos, California. The dam is over 3.5-miles long and impounds San Luis Reservoir, which has a total capacity of more than 2 million acre-feet. This Safety of Dams (SOD) project entails voluminous excavation of earth materials to be moved and placed for structures. The principal components of work include: modifications to the existing concrete spillway; removal and control of water; removing existing and reinstalling new electrical raceway, conduit, power and control cables; earthwork for structures; excavation of existing rock blanket material; excavation of existing dam embankments and foundations; excavation from borrow area; furnishing and placing earthfill consisting of filter, gravel drain, and miscellaneous fill materials; furnishing and placing shear key earthfill material; placing rock blanket material; constructing access roadways; constructing toe drains; constructing cast-in-place concrete outlet works tunnel extension and spillway chute modification; furnishing and placing gravel surfacing and seeding; quarry development, drilling, blasting and material processing.
